Waterford Union High School (WUHS) is a premier public secondary institution serving the communities of Waterford, Rochester, and Tichigan in Southeast Wisconsin. Known for a rigorous academic curriculum and a winning athletic program, WUHS prepares students for success in a global economy.

College Readiness: Over 80% of our graduates transition directly to four-year universities, including the UW-System and Ivy League institutions.

Consolidation Process

In order for the four K-8 elementary districts (Drought, North Cape, Washington-Caldwell, and Waterford Graded) and the Waterford Union High School to become one K-12 district, the following process must occur. Before June 30, the Waterford Graded School District by itself and any other of the K-8 districts (if they wish), along with the Waterford Union High School District must pass a resolution approving the consideration to consolidate. During the month of July, the Waterford Graded School District by itself and any other of the K-8 districts (if they wish), along with the Waterford Union High School District, must pass a resolution to go to referendum for the community to vote on district consolidation.
On the first Tuesday in November, the public vote is held on consolidation. In order for K-12 consolidation to occur, two elements must occur. First, the majority of all the electors who voted must approve consolidation. Second, the majority of the individual K-8 elementary districts must
also approve consolidation. This means that three out of the four Waterford K-8 elementary districts each have a majority of their own electors approve the consolidation resolution. If the consolidation resolution is approved, all of the existing school board members from the five individual districts also become a board member for the new consolidated district. This combined school board will begin to develop the framework for the new district until an election is held in April to elect the board members for the new district. This election is held on the first Tuesday in April. After the election, these new board members will take office. On July 1, the new district officially starts and the four K-8's and the Union High School District no longer legally exist.

Annual Asbestos Notification

Under AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act), all primary and secondary schools are required to develop and implement a plan for managing all building materials which contain asbestos. Included in the AHERA Act is the requirement to annually notify all workers and building occupants (or their guardians) of asbestos-related activities.

Beginning in 1988, all buildings owned, leased, or “under the control of” the School District were inspected by EPA accredited inspectors, with building material samples analyzed by an independent laboratory. Based on the inspection, the School District prepared and the state approved a comprehensive management plan for managing the asbestos. Where the asbestos-containing materials are found, the District has in place an Operations and Maintenance program. The District has accomplished the following compliance mandates regarding the administration of asbestos in school buildings:

Environmental Management Consulting, Inc. (EMC) was contracted to be the school’s consultant for asbestos for the school year.
The District is continuing with the Operations and Maintenance Program as designed for the School District. This ensures that all asbestos materials are kept in good condition in good condition.
Periodic “surveillance” in each area containing asbestos has been completed every six months by our consultant. Also, the buildings are re-inspected by an accredited inspector every three years.
In the past year the District conducted the following asbestos removal activities:

All outside contractors shall contact the lead maintenance person before commencing work. Our goal at the District is to be in full compliance with asbestos regulations. A copy of the Asbestos Management Plan is available for review by contacting the District Office. Questions related to this plan or any other asbestos concerns should be directed to the District’s Designated Person.
