Buildings and Grounds

The Buildings and Grounds Department at Waterford Union High School includes custodial operations and building maintenance. The first responsibility of the department is the health, safety and welfare of over 1,000 persons who learn, work and visit WUHS each day. Services associated with the physical environment include general maintenance, custodial, grounds, athletic setups, plumbing, painting, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, flooring, deliveries, fire safety, general building safety, signage, parking lot maintenance, roofing, building envelope, and energy management.

Compliance with Wisconsin State regulations includes ADHERA, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment, bloodborne pathogens, integrated pest management, indoor air quality, safe drinking water, and hazardous waste management.

The Buildings and Grounds Department maintains:

Over 288,000 square feet of buildings on 5 acres of land
Athletic fields, including soccer, football, baseball, softball, tennis, and track

The Department supports the District’s strategic plan by ensuring all facilities are safe, clean and properly maintained for student learning. The Department also focuses on capital planning, cost-saving initiatives, and community use of school facilities. Capital improvements are prioritized annually and recommended to the District Office.

Building Improvements- Bids Now Open

Nexus Solutions is currently accepting bids for Waterford Union High School's main building renovations and loading-dock addition. The project will start in January 2026 and will last 2 years, completing in August 2027. A voluntary contractor walk-through will be held at 9 am on October 24th, 2025. Nexus Solutions will be accepting bids until November 4th at 2 pm. The Board of Education is scheduled to review the bids during the November 17th meeting.

Annual Asbestos Notification

Waterford Union High School

ANNUAL ASBESTOS NOTIFICATION: 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

Under AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act), all primary and secondary schools are required to develop and implement a plan for managing all building materials which contain asbestos. Included in the AHERA Act is the requirement to annually notify all workers and building occupants (or their guardians) of asbestos-related activities.

Beginning in 1988, all buildings owned, leased, or “under the control of” the School District were inspected by EPA accredited inspectors, with building material samples analyzed by an independent laboratory. Based on the inspection, the School District prepared and the state approved a comprehensive management plan for managing the asbestos.

Where the asbestos-containing materials are found, the District has in place an Operations and Maintenance program. The District has accomplished the following compliance mandates regarding the administration of asbestos in school buildings:

Environmental Management Consulting, Inc. (EMC) was contracted to be the school’s consultant for asbestos for the school year.

The District is continuing with the Operations and Maintenance Program as designed for the School District. This ensures that all asbestos materials are kept in good condition in good condition.

Periodic “surveillance” in each area containing asbestos has been completed every six months by our consultant. Also, the buildings are re-inspected by an accredited inspector every three years.

In the past year the District conducted the following asbestos removal activities: no work done this year

All outside contractors shall contact the lead maintenance person before commencing work. Our goal at the District is to be in full compliance with asbestos regulations. A copy of the Asbestos Management Plan is available for review by contacting the District Office. Questions related to this plan or any other asbestos concerns should be directed to the District’s Designated Person, Joshua Wensing.
